    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • some good days, some bad days. overall not bad, but a lot of the time the tasks were not challenging

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • everyone went out of their way to help and support you. i recieved a lot of encouragement from my colleagues and everyone was very friendly and welcoming when i joined.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • everyone was always willing to help and to answer any questions i had, without complaint or frustration.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were often days when i had nothing to do, then there would be really hectic days. most days were just right, but there were too many quiet days to give a higher rating. although i write this in my 10th week of a years placement.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • i was training staff within 10 weeks. i was given guidance but allowed to carry things out on my own.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • i learnt a lot about the broader industry. i learnt how things are done in practise, and some more detailed science to emulsions and so on.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • there were a lot of activities around outside of work. dinners out etc, and the company was very generous supporting that financially. day to day in the office was quiet, and there office was rarely full as people were often on business trips etc.

    2/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • it took 4 days to get my computer connected, but my account had been set up and trainings had been organised. i did think it could have been a lot better, as there is not an individual at the company who looks after new placement students, each person is assigned to their own superviser, who is usually relatively high up, and therefore very busy as it is.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • i received a lot of helpful training. mostly on the job

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • a great company to work for, but my placement was not in the field that i wanted to go into and therefore i think my experience suffered.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • i went with a friend from uni and the company set all the placement students up through an estate agent, so we were all introduced months before moving in and my friend and i found 4 other housemates who we get on very well with. not much is organised through the company, but they allowed us all to meet which meant that we were easily able to arrange social activities ourself.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • coming from London to Hull, it was one major difference. everything is about half the price, including rent. major student area, very very cheap.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • the students have only just come back so i have only been here for the summer so far, but there is nowhere to go in the week, and only one place people go on each friday and saturday.w e have tried a few different places but it is quite quiet. i think it isn't helped by the contrast of London, perhaps it would not seem so bad if that wasn't the comparison.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • you could find evening classes at the uni etc, but the selection isn't wide and nothing is well advertised.

    2/5
