About You
It was extremely useful as I spent a week with each department within the company, which allowed me to obtain a great overview of the business, as well as confirming my chosen career path.
I was involved in the day to day processes of the business and allowed to partake in some of the activities. However as it was for a week, overall I was given more of an observational role.
I gained a lot of insight into the workings of the business and it confirmed my career choice.
Some of the skills I obtained were not relevant to my degree studies, however I did learn many soft skills such as improving my communication skills. Also when placed with the relevant departments, I was able to practice my technical skills.
The Company
Each day was carefully planned, and I was rotated through all the departments in the company in order to gain an overview of the workings of the company.
Everyone was extremely friendly and willing to help as much as they could. They explained their job roles carefully and let me assist them in their day to day roles. I was also given useful advice on my career choices.
It was dependent on the department I was placed with, as to how much training and involvement I received. Most placed me in an observational role.
I was able to see the functioning of each department and how I would like to work in each of the roles I was shown, which helped me see which roles I would/wouldn't like.
Each department was different in its culture as the way they worked was different. This allowed to see where I would best fit in.
I left the insight week certain on how I would proceed with my future studies and career path.
Everything Else
It was an insight week, so I was not paid.
I was able to meet at least one member from each department, who usually introduced me to the other members in their team. Hence I was able to meet a wide variety of employees.
There were no organised networking events, however opportunities were given during lunch and tea breaks to network with the other staff.
This was not really discussed. There did not seem to be much in the form of clubs etc.
Yes, it was extremely useful in deciding how I wanted to proceed with my chosen career path as I was given an insight into all of the departments of the company.
