    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The general atmosphere of the company and on site was positive and fun and included a nights out over the course of the two 6 months.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • In general my colleagues were well coming and friendly and I felt I was trusted and valued on the whole

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I found that after requesting a mentor from the company that I had a large amount of support from said mentor

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Both 6 month placements were extremely busy and especially the second 6 month placement

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a reasonably high level of responsibility over all which was progressively increased especially after achieving my SMSTS certificate

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills and training that I received are highly applicable to my degree and will be highly useful in the future

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere was good and the social life included playing golf on a regular basis, some good laughs and football chats with the site team in general

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There was a record book in place which laid out a set of varied experiences to be achieved over the 2 6 month periods. However this book was largely self regulated and was regularly pushed aside or dismissed by line managers as unimportant when there was work related to your responsibilities to do

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I achieved my SSSTS, SMSTS, First Aid at Work and Crane Rescue courses amongst other training

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There seems to be a really good graduate scheme with the company and I would be interested in joining but its difficult to take anything for granted in the current climate

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a good social scene including a couple of nights out and golf after work during the summer months

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • On my first placement I worked at the University of Reading and so got digs near to site. The digs were very expensive (£500 p/m) for little more than a room and a share in a kitchen. On subsequent placements I commuted and the costs of socialising were very reasonable

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • On the times that we had a chance to go out when I was in Maidenhead and Reading the nightlife was pretty good in the areas we went with some good pubs and restaurants

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The first placement enabled me to spend time travelling around and seeing some mates. The second placement did have golf in the evenings during the summer but on the whole due to it being rather busy other opportunities were limited

    4/5
