The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my work placement and feel it has really given me the perfect starting point for my career in charity fundraising.
My colleagues were very supportive, encouraging and very appreciative. A very friendly bunch!
My manager was amazing, she was so supportive and always happy to answer any questions or concerns that I had. One of the best managers that I've ever had.
Very busy, but good busy. Every day was different, I got to show my creative side, and find out what areas of work suited me best.
A lot e.g. building important relationships with the media and supporters, organising supermarket collections, delivering presentations to schools and colleges, and being the main media contact for the World's Biggest Coffee Morning in my region.
The internship has given me great experience and skills to start a career in community fundraising. They look great on your CV and so does Macmillan Cancer Support.
The Company
Very friendly atmosphere and helpful!
Well organised and flexible.
I think the company gives you great training, experience and skills. The downsides are that it is unpaid and there is no guarantee of a job afterwards, which would've been ideal for me.
Subsidised Canteen
Working from home
I was very lucky and got a temporary job at Macmillan towards the end of my placement. However, there is no guarantee of a permanent job afterwards.
The Culture
I only met fellow placement colleagues at two meetings - one at the beginning and one at the end. As we were spread out all over the country, we didn't really have the opportunity to socialise.
I had to have major cut backs on socialising and living due to the unpaid placement.
I was happy with the nightlife, but again this was limited due to the placement being unpaid.
I didn't have the time to get involved in other activities at the charity.
