    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Often I was stressed out from the amount of work to be done but at least I wasn't bored

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My manager was not very good at appreciating the work I'd put in and accepted a bonus for the work I'd been doing and never thanked me for it. Other employees were very appreciative.

    2/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Yes, there is a mentor scheme if you require it.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Busy, but that's how I like it!

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Lots of responsibility but it felt at times they were using you too much for the amount you were being paid.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The job was not particularly relevant to the degree course I was taking and was not the job I applied for.

    2/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The large amount of interns made it a good environment to work in.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Once again the large amount of interns & the experience HP has of dealing with Interns made it a well organised year.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were many training courses you could undertake but these had to be done in your own work time.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I personally would not work for HP again but that is because I do not want to work in the IT industry

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Great atmosphere due to the large number of interns on the scheme (around 70 based in Bracknell alone).

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Not as good as the North but Reading is decent enough price wise. They should increase the salary so that you are able to at least pay off some debts as well rather than simply living on the breadline.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Reading was good but you wouldn't touch Bracknell with a bargepole. Transport links made it possible to go out in London if you had the money.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Weekly football is organised and some other activities could be organised dependant on the intern social committee

    4/5
