The Role
I loved my internship at Macmillan. I cannot recommend it enough! I was trusted and given responsibility for a number of projects which have really boosted my CV. It is a nurturing environment which I have thrived in.
Working for a charity there is always something to do. Macmillan are reliant on the support of volunteers and interns so to say that you are valued is an understatement! Macmillan has the friendliest office environment I have experienced to date. The staff always included me in all their social activities. As a summer intern there were also a group of people in the same situation as I was who were always happy to chat and we would regularly go for lunch or meet up for drinks.
On the first day of my internship I sat down with my line manager and discussed my aims and objectives for the placement. This was then reviewed in weekly catchups. I had the opportunity to work with a mentor from a different department if I wished. Various inductions were provided at the start to help me gain a strong grounding in the way the company works and excellent feedback was provided at the end of the placement.
I was busy from 9 - 5 but my colleagues encouraged me to leave at the end of the day.
I was given responsibility for various projects but equally I was always supported with this every step of the way. It was the perfect balance to help me grow.
My CV has been transformed.
The Company
One of the greatest things about the office is that there is cake every day. Be warned that the Macmillan Stone is not a myth! Everyone works hard but it is a friendly, social environment.
Fantastic. An induction day, exit interview and round up day organised by HR. Various inductions organised by the team I was working with. Clear structure set out at the beginning of the placement which was stuck to.
I have no completed any training courses as such but then this was not what I hoped to gain from the experience. The objectives which I made at the start of the scheme were met and/or exceeded.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
There are always opportunities coming up if you want them. A number of interns on the summer scheme were successfully offered jobs in various departments at the end of the scheme.
The Culture
Went for lunch every day with other interns, drinks etc
Given a lunch and travel allowance
Poor directly around us but equally it's London so you're never too far away from somewhere nice
