The Role
I really enjoyed my internship, I learnt so much and the people I worked with were so helpful and encouraging. I have learnt valuable skills and I really enjoyed seeing how the British Red Cross worked as an organisation locally within the international framework that it is often more known for. I enjoyed learning about the different services and interviewing different people and using press releases to promote the Red Cross.
I felt very valued by my collegues as they were always there to handover work to me that they needed me to do and I felt good about myself that they would have the trust in me to complete the work.
My supervisor was brilliant, she has been very encouraging and supportive. My weekly one to one meetings were very useful as we got to speak to each other about how I was doing and she would give me constructive feedback and inform me of how to improve things if they needed doing. She is a very good teacher!
I had the perfect balance of work I always had things to do and the deadlines I was given were sufficient enough to complete the work to the best of my ability.
I was given a level of responsibility that allowed me to work on my own and use my own initiative and I feel I had a good amount of work to get on with and to be given a large responsibilty on projects such as the Humanitarian Citizen Awards was a huge responsibility and I felt privilaged to be able to work on it.
The skills that I have learnt have been invaluable and I will certainly use them for the rest of my life, the organisational regualtions especially have allowed me to relaise how the Red Cross communications team need to abide by certain practices. Having already completed my degree the training in the work place has really put my knowledge in practice and it was great to be in a working environment.
The Company
It was very friendly and quite jovial and very hardworking. Everyone seemed to help each other and it seemed like a proper little team, a little family.
The overall internship was set up very well, the job description was very well laid out and I would say I have completed 90% of what the role outline was. Training opportunities were available but most in the main UK office so I feel some of them shoould be fed down to regional offices in that regard.
The opportunity to take part in a first aid course was brilliant and very valuable and of course vital when working for the Red Cross. Training in terms of development was quite limited as most of the training events took place in the UK office so time and availbility restricted that in that sense.
National Travel
I would definately apply for a job with the Red Cross, their organisation and staff are fantastic and will be on the look out for future job opportunities.
The Culture
There were a very linited number of interns but they worked on seperate days to me so in terms of there being a good social scene, I would say the level was very low.

Not applicable. I commuted from home.
The intern induction welcome day was the only opportinity I had to get involved in outside of work, but I could have taken part in volunteering but I personally did not have enough time. More opportunities, again are available at the UK Office.
