    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • 2/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I would receive feedback on the pieces of work I delivered, which was overall very positive.

    2/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was assigned a buddy, as well as a people manager, who I was in regular contact with. I could go to them anytime and felt that their support made my internship even more enjoyable.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • In the office, there were some slow days, but I did actively seek work and managed to keep busy, even if the jobs were small and only required a few hours of my time on.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was sent to a client site for 2 weeks in Bristol, which is far more responsibility than I was expecting to be given as an intern. It formed some of the most interesting work that I was given on the internship.

    2/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My time management and organisation skills have improved greatly, so I am now more disciplined when carrying out my own university work schedule. I am also more familiar with Excel which will potentially help with data sorting for my dissertation.

    2/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Although everyone in the office was clearly focused on delivering high quality work on time, my colleagues were very friendly and happy to explain new concepts to me.

    2/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • 3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We had a number of training sessions in terms of Compliance but there is also an online portal providing extra support to further employees' learning. This is particularly helpful given that I will be joining the Actuarial division, so I will have access to exam support.

    2/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am excited to be joining the firm in September. A large proportion of the interns secured the job offer as well, contrary to the challenging business environment we are currently facing.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Amongst colleagues, yes, as there were regular team drinks being organised. It was difficult to arrange meetings with other interns as many of us were working on client sites, so we could not coordinate very well.

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living close to the office could potentially be very expensive, given that it is in central London.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I did not really sample much of the nightlife during my internship, but the bars/pubs the teams would choose for team drinks were fairly reasonably priced and the venues were pleasing.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I felt that I still had enough time to pursue my hobbies after work. It was nice to know that if I finished the work and it was of the right standard, that there was no need to face time.
