Assosiate in Core Assurance Review

I had a summer internship in assurance (auditing) in the Uxbridge office, West London.The flexibility of hours was very convenient, while the work was significant and worthwhile.

I got on very well with my audit team, and I wasn't treated as an intern but instead as just another analyst on the team. There were times when I was being taught by team members, and other times when I would help and talk through best practices to team members.

My in-charge was always on hand with more work if I needed any, while my personal manager made sure I achieved my goals while on the internship

I always had something to do, and only twice went home after hours but that was by no means forced. I chose to do so.

I took upon most work that would have been done by a second year associate, while some parts of work was done in the equivalent audit last year by a qualified 4th year associate.

Much of the skills were to do with accounting, which is convenient as I am to be studying a module in that discipline. As its not what I would look to do as a job though, I wouldn't completely describe what I learnt as skills for life. Working as part of the organisation and part of the team would, however, be useful for the future, as well as the degree of client contact and professionalism expected in correspondence.

The office was really a great place to be, work was so much easier being around people that you get on with, while there never seemed to be an atmosphere of having to work in silence or anything like that.

The internship swung between being at your local office and meeting up with all the interns UK wide for certain development days. The balance was great and it all ran very smoothly from start to finish. 6 weeks flew by.

A personal manager helped to define and acheive goals, while bosses on the client job also helped me along. I was treated pretty much as someone who was going to be a permanent employee for the forseeable future.

The job was great, and the people even better. Your development as an individual is also a primary focus and you'll never be standing still in that respect.

Yes it was good, we could often meet for lunch when we were in the office, otherwise the teams on client sites would do so. There were also a couple of leaving drinks for various people switching jobs which the interns were invited to.

Suburbs of London, so good considering I myself live in central London.

Uxbridge isn't well known for that, but London isn't far and drinks were often organised in the centre.

As long as you were proactive in doing so.
