The Role
I was involved in a wide variety of client assignments, given real responsibility on client sites as part of the Assurance division. The best part was my colleagues who could not do enough to make me feel comfortable and at ease, whilst making sure I always had work to complete.
I strongly felt valued by my colleagues to the point where I genuinely came to see them as friends by the end of my internship, socialising together outside work.
I was given a briefing with every task assigned and my 'buddy' was more or less always available to answer any questions I had which I didn't want to take to someone more senior.
There were periods where I had little work to do and had e-learning to complete instead. However the majority of the time I was given enough work to do without feeling overwhelmed.
I was given plenty of responsibility at client sites, with tasks including speaking directly to the client's accounting team to verify information. This was a great way of improving my professional communication skills.
I honed my professional communication skills through the client facing nature of the role I was in. I also undertook detailed analytical work on Excel using PwC's internal software.
The Company
Colleagues socialised outside of the office and there was a friendly atmosphere.
There was an excellent induction programme which gave me the opportunity to meet the other interns. I was also given regular feedback on my performance. I felt the placement could have been longer than 6 weeks.
There was a 3 day induction and e-learning provided throughout the internship. I was also given regular feedback from Managers on my different client assignments.
The big 4 are all excellent names to have on a CV. PwC is growing rapidly and there is good scope to second abroad or move division further down the line.
The Culture
In my particular office there was the occasional social organised by the office, but little formally put in place by PwC for interns specifically.
The cost was reasonable, neither expensive nor cheap. Average cost.
The nightlife was not bad. Didn't go out enough to fully experience it.
There were a few socials organised and a 5 a side football team.
