    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had a really amazing experience on the Summer Insight internship and enjoyed every part of it. Would definitely recommend it to others.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I found that one of, if not the best part of my internship was getting to know and working with the people in the department I was in, (Tax) as well as the other interns. Since I wasn't from the city I did my internship in everyone was also very welcoming and helpful with telling me of places to visit and showing me around.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Everyone was always very generous with their time if I needed any help and I never felt like I was on my own in any of the work I was set. We were all given a 'buddy' for the duration of the internship who we could go to with all our queries no matter how trivial and my buddy was great at making sure I was coping well with the work I was given and was always very supportive and helpful. Even when my official buddy was away for some of the 6 weeks I was in the office I was always sat next to someone more experienced than me who could offer guidance or assistance whenever I needed it.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was never bored as I was encouraged to go around and ask for work if I ever ran out of work to do. There were occasions where this meant that I would then have a deluge of work because people had gone out of their way to find me work to do but this was always manageable and actually just taught me to better manage my time and to always ask when something is due so I could better prioritise.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was very surprised at the amount of autonomy and responsibility I was given as it far exceeded what I was expecting. I was allowed to prepare tax computations from Day 1 and never felt like I was just being given menial tasks to do.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Coming from a non accounting background I definitely gained a lot of technical knowledge on the internship and now have a much better understanding of the workings of the corporate tax system in the UK. I also learnt more general skills like managing time and competing priorities, research skills and teamwork which will definitely stand me in good stead in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The work atmosphere was always very friendly and I couldn't have asked for a more conducive welcoming work environment.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I certainly felt that a lot of planning and preparation had taken place prior to us joining the firm as we all were contacted by our Buddys before we had ever even been to the office. We were always given very clear details of what we would be doing whether at the Induction Training in Staverton Park or during our the rest internship.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As mentioned above we were all give 3 days of training in our specific line of service in Staverton Park which I found immensely useful once we got to our local offices as it gave us a pretty good foundation to build upon. The online training we were made to do also helped me to better understand some of the ethical rules the firm adheres to and I certainly found them very interesting. We also had a development day midway through the internship where we were taught presentation skills to prepare us for the presentation we had to give at the end of the internship.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am currently still awaiting the results of my request to transfer to London but will gladly accept a job offer if I am made one.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • All the interns got on well with each other and are mostly still in touch with one another.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Fairly reasonable

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Glasgow is a really fun vibrant city with lots to offer and we had some really good nights out while I was there.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were opportunities to join in office sports teams as well as to volunteer with various charitable bodies outside of work.
