    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • This was a fantastic role, and the team was flexible about their plans regarding my internship, allowing me to get involved in a lot more technical projects than they originally planned on account of my technical skill level.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Extremely, I got positive feedback from the team and they all tried their best to include me in on projects that they were working on, I felt like a member of the team in a very short amount of time and joined them for lunch nearly every day.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My supervisors often took time out to explain the technical details on any projects that I worked on if they were above my level, the team is certainly committed to sharing information and supporting others.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • For the majority of the time, I was very busy as we had multiple projects ongoing as well as customer visits to prepare the lab for as well as consulting with customers. The only time that things got a little quiet was towards the end of my internship when the big projects that we had been working on were complete leaving only customer visits to keep me busy.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I have rated this question at 8/10 because to be realistic, I certainly wasn't running the show however the team did entrust me with a lot of hands on work and administrative access in the lab because they knew I was at the level where I can do the majority of work needed and for what I don't know, I'm wise enough to ask for help.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I am hopeful that my experience will help me as I search for further employment, I did get lots of hands on practical experience in a network infrastructure role and see how the CPOC departent functions within the business.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was brilliant, the team were really fun people to be around and we had a lot of laughs, plus they were really into the technology that we work with and very committed.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The only problems with the setup was the communications between the interview stage and being told if we're successful (however Cisco spoke with us at the end of the internship about this and hope to prevent this issue next time), once the internship was started, it was an excellent experienced with an excellent structure involving 3 reviews to ensure that both you and your manager can agree on what you'll get out of the experience. My manager in the intertnship was really friendly and helpful regarding me getting the most out of it.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There is a number of training packages avilable to staff and interns get access to these training packages as well, I made use of some of these which I needed in order to do my job.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I won't know what my future prospects are until I finish University.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I only spoke to the other interns during the meeting at the start and a webex meeting at the end of the internship, and we exchanged contact details during that final meeting.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Unfortunately living costs are expensive in the London area, and it took me a lot of hunting to find a place to stay that was affordable within my salary, offered long term lets, and it didn't leave much for food/drink.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I can't really rate this fairly as I didn't have money for such luxuries

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Outside of work, I didn't really get involved in any other activities, sometimes I stayed late at work if some of the others were working late in order to get more work done on projects and the office allowed for this.

    3/5
