The Role
The role was brilliant and I really enjoyed everything that I did here. I felt like what I was doing was useful to the team and the organisation.
Everyone was welcoming from the first day and I really felt I built up a good relationship with them. They were all really approachable and willing to help me with anything I needed.
Not sure what is meant by management but I had a weekly one to one with my mentor and could easily ask the department manager anything I wanted to know. The associate director of the department was also very open and I could go and ask him things or report to him about any tasks he was involved in.
In the one to one sessions we looked at the work load i had for the previous week and what was going to happen in the coming week. This meant that I always had the opportunity to say if I felt too busy or not busy enough, although I never had to! I was encouraged to create a work table so that I could keep track of all the tasks I undertook throughout the weeks.
I was very much left to get on with things once i had been briefed on what people wanted me to do, however they were always available for any questions that i might have along the way. The fact that I had a project that was just my responsability while I was there was fantastic and really showed that I was valued. I was given work that was actually really important to achieving a good result.
This was my first experience of working in the charity sector and it is definitely something I would jump at the chance of doing again! I learned so much about the way the organisation and the department works as well as learning some new computer skills
The Company
It was a great atmosphere with everyone happy to be working there. People were almost always cheerful and friensly with me from day 1. The office itself is bright and really reflects the work being done here.
The inductions at the start were great and vital for getting to know the organisation. Having my own mentor to report to was really helpful and she was wonderful! also have the internship co-ordinator there was good and he was able to answer any questions about the internship or otherwise. The CV and interview training we were given was so useful that I can't wait to try it out!
I feel like they tried to offer me as many opportunities as possible in terms of personal training. I was shown how to use the different research databases they have on offer and also given many inductions into different areas of the organisation so I could see how they worked.

Working from home
After my degree I would love to work with Cancer Research UK again, preferably within this department as I loved everything about it. Two interns from the last intake got a job in the department while I was there and many other people from my intake got jobs within various departments.
The Culture
After work drinks and get togethers were often arranged and most of us got on really well.
It's quite an expensive area (where isn't in London!) but you get expenses for lunch and travel. There's a lot of choice though and the quality is great
Obviously... it's central London.
There were a lot of opporutunities to help volunteer at events as well as taking part. I was also invited to almost all social events arranged internally, there are probably about 2 every week
