The Role
There was a lot of self development is involved and it wasn't always clear who to go to for guidance, and if I was aware I didn't necessarily feel as though I could talk to that person.
I worked between two stores, the first I felt as though trainnees were not made to feel a part of the team whereas in the second store I was treated like an individual and my opinion was welcomed.
Again, I was given more in my second store than in my first, I'm not sure how much training management have in dealing with trainees themselves, but I made sure to alway ask for support and guidance when I needed it.
On some occasions or near the beginning of my placemet there wre times when I had to find things to do, however most days were incredibly busy, but a key competency of the placement was learning to manage my time better.
I was given a moderate amount of responsiblity, however I would have liked more towards the end.
The placement really hedlped to build my confidence and I know how to manage a team. My networks will also help massively with my degree.
The Company
Management knew the boundaries of work and fun so there was always banter and jokes to be had but I worked in a really well performing large store so it could get quite intense with such a large commerical team.
As previously stated, there was a lot of self development involved. I feel as though it could be more structured or management should recieve more training but it's important that the placement can be adaptable to different styles of leanring which mine was.
There were a good amount of training courses and I also got an amazing opportunity to work in head office. I also got the opportunity to meet senior people from the business so I felt as though I was invested in on a personal level and also financially.
Subsidised Canteen
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
I was offered a place on the graduate scheme 2013.
The Culture
Everyone felt comfortable talking to one another and were there to support each other. I never felt overly competitive with my colleagues.
I worked on a retail park and had to travel 30 miles each way so did not get the opportunity to socialise near my work area.
As above.
There were charity events that we got involved in which also worked as team building exercices.
