    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really enjoyed the internship, the work was extremely interesting and I was given a massive amount of responsibility. I was treated as a member of the team, and not a university student only there for 6 weeks. This was especially surprising given that my longest time with the same team was 3 weeks.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was given the level of wok usually given to a first or second year graduate, which made me feel really appreciated and part of the team. I thought it particularly interesting that members of the team would often ask my opinion on work they were conducting which helped to make me feel valued.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The graduate recruitment team were especially supportive, providing us with all the information we needed to know and regularly checking that we were enjoying the placement. My people manager was also a good source of support and was very friendly and helpful. I also had a buddy, someone in the firm 2 years above me who would help out with any smaller queries that I had, such as what time meetings were or making sure I was invited to certain events.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As my internship was during the busy period I was extremely busy each day, but not to the extent that I felt unable to cope. Other staff members were always willing and available to help me if I needed any assistance.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility considering my basic accounting knowledge. I was accountable for one particular section of work within each job, which made the work seem like my own and rather than me helping out other staff members with odd jobs.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have already began to use skills learnt during my time with PwC in my third year at university. Notably communicating with people in teams and making the most use of my time to get a certain task done.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I only spent 3 days at my office during the 6 weeks of my internship due to the nature of the job. I found the office to be very friendly, for example reception staff knowing the names of most of the office staff. The office has a sort of common room with table tennis and other games which proved fun during lunch breaks.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The graduate recruitment team were fantastic at organising the internship as a whole. We were told far in advance of meetings in other offices so that we could plan our travel accordingly, and I received plenty of information before the start of the internship so that I felt comfortable with the process.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The internship commenced with a three day training event with all the UK interns. Throughout the internship we also had to complete a project in groups and were given time to do this, although it was particularly difficult as working with interns from across 3 offices and out at client sites made video conferencing tricky.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I was offered a job on the final day of my internship.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Due to the location of my office, the social scene among fellow interns was difficult. I would have really appreciated if PwC had set up a social event when 3 offices of interns met up to complete group projects.

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I stayed at home with my parents for the duration of the internship so difficult to comment.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • As my office was not in the city centre, nightlife was hard to come by. This was coupled with being at client sites for all but 5 days of my internship, so nightlife was not a priority.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I was invited and attended the department 'away day', which was a great opportunity to meet members of the team who I had not had the chance to work directly with.

    4/5
