    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed it and have been offered a graduate role which I will definitely be accepting!

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone was really friendly and welcoming, offered support when necessary and valued the work I had done.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given time to get to grips with things with guidance when I needed/asked for it. It meant that I could learn to do things by doing them myself, with help when required.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I did some archiving and data entry whilst I was there, since we were in a bit of a low patch in the year where there wasn't that much technical work. However this was mixed in with other more challenging work and we also had an internship project so could spend our time learning more about the actuarial profession.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was trusted in doing the same tasks that graduates do when they join the company.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Doing the internship project I got to learn more about the company and the profession, as well as developing teamwork, presentation and report writing skills.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was very friendly; everyone was chatty, relaxed and welcoming. There were quite a few inside team jokes, but I was quickly let in on them and invited to join.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There were a few issues in being shown some initial presentations with people being ill or on holiday. In terms of main training organised at the Guildford office, it was all run very smoothly.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had training days at the Guildford office, as well as a lot of support from the team I was in.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I've been offered a graduate job that I will be accepting!

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We were invited to the Summer Party, but unfortunately all the interns lived quite far away so we couldn't really enjoy any night life.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I commuted from home and so didn't have any living costs in the area.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Since I was commuting I was unable to go out!

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I was invited to many activities, but was unable to go to most since I lived too far away. There was a lot of talk about the different activities the Social Committee were organising.

    4/5
