The Role
I had a great time working at Zest for Sport and the staff make it an even better experience.
I always had something to do, and they would always rely on me to do things. Work did seem to pile up when i had taken a few days off.
I was given a lot of support, they were really flexible and explained a lot of things that I was new to.
There were lots of times where I was really busy but at the same time I was having a good time, the day used to fly past sometimes. There were also times where you could take it easy and work at a relaxed pace.
I was given responsibility to manage a major project and at the same time manage sessions on my own.
The skills and knowledge I gained from here have been extremely useful for me. I have developed skills that will be valuable for me not just in the Youth Work and Sports Management work field but can be transferable to many other sectors.
The Company
The staff at Zest were great! The only time I was ever bored was when I was left in the office alone. The things your hear and learn in the office were as educational as the work.
Everything was easy for me, from contacting the placement to my review meetings. There was always work for me to do, and I had regular supervisions and reviews.
The company sent me on several courses that have will benefit me in the future when looking for a job. Overall I think they had invested just under a thousand pounds in me sending me on internal and external training courses such as a coaching qualification in basketball and a positive behaviour management course.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
I have got a part time job with them working in the Youth Club and working at sports sessions, and there is a possibility I work there after I have finished my degree.
The Culture
The staff there were great fun to go out with, they new how to party.
The cost for eating was low as there was a choice of local places to eat, and a local Tesco. The only downside is bus/ tram fare, because they did do discount fare for uni students.
Sheffield is a great place to have fun with a lot of choices.
Zest worked closely with so many organisations, I made valuable contacts in the Youth sector across Sheffield within resulted in me getting more casual work. I also got a lot of favours from a lot of people to help with my projects.
