    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • There was always work to be done, and it was a great atmosphere to work in. I worked in supply chain and was given several projects to work on. Each one was enjoyable.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone was so easy to get a long with. They were a great help and always readily available with advice. I met with a couple of current grads for coffee and were readily available to give me advice.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given a certain amount of support, it was more that they wanted me to get on with the work myself and find things out on my own. For example, i had to book appointments with other managers and arrange my own schedule and meetings which were required. If i needed any more support my manager was there for me.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I feel that there were not enough 'big' projects for me to take on - i only had 2/3 main areas which i got through pretty quickly. However there is always work to be done, sometimes it was small work that I was doing like making a presentation for customer care on how to deal with complaints on the phone. I think this could of been better arranged as the main project i was meant to be working on only took me 4/5 weeks to complete. i think this was expected to take longer and there wasnt as much work available after this.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • L'Oreal gave me a lot of responsibiliy. I had to arrange things that i needed myself and i had to make decisions which i thought were best for the company.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt a lot of skills that arent taught at university. I felt that it was more job/life-experience that was taught. It made me appreciate how tiring and stressful working full time can be and how easy we have it as a student. I was taught about presentation skills and how to improve my use of excel and also about business decisions. These are things that are never taught and you have to experience them yourself to learn from them.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone was extremely friendly and happy to help :)

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • HR were always in contact with me and made sure if there was any problems they would smooth them out. This was a fantastic help.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I learnt a lot from loreal on life skills that are transferable on any business working in any department. For example, presentation skills and excell skills.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    National Travel

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    Healthcare from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Towards the end of the placement your manager needs to give you a recommendation - once this is done you then get offered for a final interview. Since you completed the assessment centre at the internship stage this is no longer required. I think about 50% - maybe less of their interns get offered jobs so if you are considering loreal make sure you shine above the rest :)

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I was the only intern in the manchester DC so there were no other interns or grads. however with colleagues there were a couple of social events.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • 3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Was really good. I only went out 2/3 times and went to Tiger Tiger at Printworks - I would recommend.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was nothing really, as i said i was at the manchester DC. However, there were always something going on at hammersmith.
