The Role
ExxonMobil is a fantastic company to work for, they make you feel valued and the project you are given is actually a real problem it is not just a project made up for a student and then binned when you leave.
Everyone was very supportive and always helped when I needed it.
My supervisor was very good at 1:1 and helping us set weekly and long term goals, her organisation also meant that we never missed admin deadlines and became stressed about the project.
With the team I was in, some days I was very busy and then others I was not quite so busy depending on whether people had provided me with the information I had requested or not but in general I was not bored or watching the clock! A few times, especially near the end, the days have flown past.
My project was purely mine and my partners and it was up to us to complete the objectives set. It was also important to know that we had handed over a good project so that it could be continued and developed to the next stage.
I become more confident in my technical abilities but aside from that I did not receive any more specialist training. It depended on the project you were given. I am now also more safety aware.
The Company
There was only myself and my colleague in my office so when we were both working it was quiet but there were lively times as well.
Very few complaints really. The organisers did a fantastic job.
They helped me dramatically improve my confidence and further enhance my communications skills. They also interview you so you get further practise there as well. We were also taken to many all inclusive evening events including pub quizzes, meals, bowling etc which helped enhance bonding within the group.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
I hope I have got a job with them but I will find out i a couple of weeks.
The Culture
Excellent social scene, never at a loss for something to do. We were also given a social budget to spend as well.
Not too bad, accomodation was cheap, drinks were standard really.
The refinery is a good 25minute drive from southampton, but Southampton nightlife is good and we were living there.
Yes there were many sporting activities to get involved in.
