Consultant Review

PLEASE NOTE: This review was for a placement at Watson Wyatt prior to Towers Perrin merging with Watson Wyatt to become Towers Watson. (The RateMyPlacement Team) It was a very enjoyable 6 weeks with a very healthy work and social balance. The quantity of work was enough to keep me engaged, without being overwhelming.

Everybody made me very welcome, and after a few weeks, I was given work with much more substance, and a lot more freedom in how I was to go about completing it.

My line manager was positioned close to me and made it clear that i was to go to her if I needed anyting. She was however, only in the office 3 days a week, so it may have been neneficial to have a line manager who has more of an office presence.

It varied greatly throughout my internship. there were periods where I didnt have much work, and was having to send out work requests. We were also tasked with an interns project which you could work on when you had little other work to do. this added to the variety of tasks that I had to do and helped develop other skills such as working in teams spread around the country.

All work is checked, but this is standard actuarial practice. I was given a lot more work as the internship progressed, and the work developed in difficulty. With this came added responsibility.

It was without a doubt a very worthwhile experience. I have gained practice in working with large teams with a variety of people from very senior, to recent graduates. Being tasked with work with deadlines is very good practice in time management, and I now have an added impotous to complete my degree successfully.

The office has a very laid back atmosphere and is reasonably quiet. We do however have frequent long comedy conversations and everybody was very sociable. There were also frequent office socials including BBQ's and company rounders which were great opportunities to mix with colleagues outside work hours.

The placement was very well set up with clearly defined roles and preperation made for me before I arrived. I felt I was always supported by HR and the review induction days were all very well organised.

I was the only intern in the office, and as a result, people took time to explain things to me and I grew familiar with a lot of teh software used. When people take the time out to inform you, it gives you a feeling of being valued.

I have received an offer to join the company when I graduate.

Many of the other interns were quite quiet, however there are some who are sociable. We did not however go out together as a group, which was dissapointing.

The costs in reigate are relatively average, with obvious variance depending on the quality of establishment.

Reigate is a small, quaint town and therefore has limited nightlife. We went to the pub for drinks and went for meals, but there are no clubs locally. You have to go into London to find these.

There were several extra opportunities such as the rounders which I particpated in. These were very good fun and was very enjoyable.
