    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Amazing experience including lot of fun but also very hard work

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Great support from all my colleagues. Very friendly people which is important since you not only work with them but also live and socialize.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Most of the managers work they way up to get to the position therefore they were good at their jobs.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Extremely busy. Working throughout the whole day.. sometimes from dawn to dusk but also had time to go and visit new places.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Very much depended on which department I worked at. For example in housekeeping I had no responsibility whatsoever as I was a trainee, an extra person who was shadowing all the time but in the purser's office I has as much responsibility as any other employee.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My experience will definitely help me in future.. I am actually already more confident with any jobs as I am not afraid to face challenges. The ship taught me that I can learn to do anything if I am willing to.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Sometimes the atmosphere was a bit tense but in overall I think it depends on individuals and their approach and also the department. For example in housekeeping I experienced the most friendly people as most of them were Filipinos who are genuinely very friendly. On the other hand, restaurant is a department where it all comes down to business and people are interested in getting their stuff done and don't help each other a lot. It was very hard for me to fell welcomed.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Due to people going on leave and new management, the organization of our placement was always great but once we knew our way around, we were able to take care of our issues.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was a 2 week training at the beginning of our placement which helped us to understand the Cunard's mission and get to know the policies. We could also use online courses for free and there were plenty of courses if we were interested.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised/Company Gym

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Well, I think that it is a lifetime opportunity to work on a ship, however I am not sure if I would like to dedicate my life to a career on a sea as you are away from your family for very long time..

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I developed a great friendship with my schoolmates which I got to know on the ship.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • You don't pay for anything. The company even paid for our travel expenses to and from the ship. All food was for free, uniformed was being washed for free and there were washing machines and tumble dryers for free but you need your own washing powder. There is also a bar but you have to pay for the drinks, which are tax free and therefore very cheap:))

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Lot of people on the ship go usually to the crew bar for a drink.. unfortunately there is only one bar and the people are always the same.. but even though you can still have fun. There is lot of themed parties going on and once in a while there is the White star party where free drinks are being served.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • You can use the gym, library or go ashore if you are off. Otherwise not much time off to really do anything.

    2/5
