    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. The content and tasks were very interesting. Especially suited for a social scientist.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My team did not treat me like an inter, but treated me like one of their team. I felt at home here instantly and I will be very sorry to leave.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given as much guidance and support as I required. It was very much a situation in which I asked for help if I needed it, and I was given that help instantly. The guidance offered by my team and colleagues was excellent.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was extremely busy in my team. There was never a dull moment and I always had multiple tasks on the go. I was never too busy though, and always found time to balance work with my other interests.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given the responsibility of writing many crucial documents and reports. I was also involved in direct crisis management which really allowed me to experience the organisation at its best and busiest.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The experience I have gained from my internship will be invaluable in my final year of study. The skills I have learnt are not industry specific and I believe they will be extremely helpful in my life.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office had a great atmosphere. Despite being very busy and business like, everyone was incredibly friendly and went out of their way to make me feel at home.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was incredibly well organised, due in part to the excellent graduate team RBS has. They structured and designed the internship so as to make it beneficial for both the company and myself.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The tasks I was given and the reports I had to write helped develop my skills substantially. They also allowed me to take time out of my working day to attend various presentations and masterclasses.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Extremely appealing. By participating in the internship there is an automatic chance to obtain a place on the 2 year graduate scheme RBS offers. I would love to obtain one of those places.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene was not as good as I had hoped. Unfortunately most of the interns were based in London (so their social scene was excellent) but a few, including myself, were based in Edinburgh. We had to organise our own social events and not much was organised for us. This was the weakest point of the programme.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Relatively high in Edinburgh but more than manageable. Lots of things to do and lots of places to shop which will allow you to stay within the budget.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Very good. Not comparable to other large cities. Glasgow is close enough to be a viable option though.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were opportunities to go out with my team. I was also encouraged to take time off to enjoy the Edinburgh Fringe festival.

    4/5
