The Role
ExxonMobil is an International Company whom treat their employees well and are involved in a wide range of interesting, diverse projects. I really enjoyed my internship because I met lots of new people and asked lots of questions to find out as much information as I could about their roles. I was exposed to lots of different areas of the business so that I could develop as a professional, the best I could.
I built and developed fantastic relationships with my colleagues. They treated me as one of the team and involved me in many decisions and work schedules. I felt proud when the team achieved their goals.
My manager, although a very busy person, always made time once a week to sit down and ensure that I was happy with my work. I got on really well with him and learnt a lot about management from him.
Even if I did not have tasks to do, I contacted the relevant people on site to see whether I could visit. This meant that I was always busy doing something and learning new skills.
I was given lots of responsibility during my placement. I was allowed to arrange meetings and express my opinion when decisions were being made.
This placement showed me how to apply my university theory to real life. The communication skills and engineering skills I developed during this placement, I will continue to use throughout my career.
The Company
I had so much fun working in the office. There were always people around to talk to and ask questions to. The offices are friendly and calm and clean.
I experienced no problems with my internship nor the initial admin. I lived close by to the other interns.
I believe that Exxon invested a lot of money into me and my training. I really feel the summer placement developed me as a engineer.

I think Exxon Mobil would be a great employer in the future. I would like to work for them abroad rather than in the UK, but that is because I would like to work in Upstream. Overall they are a great company to work for.
The Culture
There was a great social scene amongst my placement students. We went out every weekend in the evenings and took some nice day trips out.
As a London student I am use to paying lots for activities so Southampton/ New Forest area was extremely cheap for myself.
Although not quite London I always managed to have a great night out every weekend. Because there is a university in Southampton there are plenty of clubs to go to.
Work organised a meal for all of us interns which was really nice and teams put on their own meals and nights out.
