The Role
I loved working for Exxon. They are involved in lots of interesting projects and have a very talented team. Also as a Chemical Engineer they had lots of work that I could get involved in.
I often worked alone, however I always worked near a colleague. Colleagues were always friendly and I never experienced any problems with anybody. They would answer my questions when I had any.
Unfortunately unlike other students didn't see my manager very much throughout my placement. My manager was very busy and high up in the company and therefore he would fit me in when he could.
I was quite busy on a daily basis however I would have liked a bit more diverse range of work.
I was given lots of responsibility during my placement, after I had been shown around site I was allowed to go onto site to learn about the processing facilities. I was also given a project which I had to manage myself.
Exxon Mobil helped me to develop how to use the knowledge I had gained at university to put into practice into my working life.
The Company
I had a great laugh at Exxon Mobil, most of their employees are really good fun when you get to work alongside them and the company organises social events so you can have fun outside of work to. The offices are quite quiet but there comfortable and you feel safe.
I didnt have any problems during my internship. The only thing I did struggle with was the assessment centre at the end which meant I did not get a graduate job with them at the end even though my work had been praised.
I think exxon spent a good amount of money and time in each of the interns. They made sure that we had a learning experience as well as a good time.
Subsidised Canteen

Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
I will probably not work for Exxon in the future as I do not feel they have a large enough business in the UK, however as a company I cannot fault them for the way they treat their staff.
The Culture
We had some brilliant nights out and I lived with other interns it was so much fun.
Southampton isn't too badly prices, I paid for city living so I wasn't isolated and paid quite a lot in petrol driving into work, but I could have made my internship so much cheaper if I had wanted.
I love going out and Southampton has some great clubs and pubs to go out in. Its also a very pretty place so you can enjoy drinks near boats on the harbour.
We organised lots of meals and nights out and some of the other interns joined local sports teams as well. I can honestly say I wasn't bored all summer.
