    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a fantastic vacation scheme which offered a mix of presentations, exercises and talks as well as considerable time to gain work experience in the two seats of my choice.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • All colleagues were extremely approachable, regardless of their position in the firm. Trainees, associates, and partners made me feel part of their team at work and extended invitations to their social events. HR were all very friendly and supportive!

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • This varied considerably. The trainee buddies I was assigned to were great and did their best to delegate work. However, the supervisors were often very busy and did not have time to give me much attention.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Again, this varied considerably, mainly depending on the amount of work in the department. That said, the events organised by HR ensured that the day was appropriately broken up.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Due to the nature of the work, and having no legal knowledge, I was not given significant responsibility. Nonetheless, I was given tasks which were essential to the team's success and did my best to fulfil these.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The placement has been invaluable. It has extended my legal knowledge and legal experience and exposed me to the workings of a large city law firm. Not only did I gain experience and knowledge but I am also in a better position to make a decision about my future career.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was great. In my first seat, the department was always very busy and lots was going on which provided a very exciting atmosphere. In my second seat, although less busy, the people were just as friendly and approachable. Also, a few leaving parties followed by drinks trolleys, speeches and a few social gatherings ensured a fun atmosphere throughout the week.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The organisation of the vacation scheme was very well thought out, and the combination of events kept me busy.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The many talks/presentations ensured we were taught a lot about the firm, whilst we also had feedback sessions in preperation for out interviews and assessments. I was also able to attend trainee training sessions which allowed me to gain an insight into their training programme.
