    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The job was HUGELY beneficial being able to get involved with everything relating to the brand from conferences to confidential meetings and ceremonies. I learnt so much and was able to put theory into practice.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone from the general manager to support staff knew who the students were and they took to us very well ( as we were their first ever student intake). There was mutual respect from everyone with in the business and was given a lot of autonomy and responsibility.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had weekly meetings set up with my direct line manager which were for discussing issues or just saying about what i had been doing that week. There was also opportunity to talk with the business unit manager about what I had been doing. There was also support and guidance on life and university as well which I never expected.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There was always something to do and if there wasn't on the brand that you were working on there would always be something on the Haematology team.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • For a couple of months of placement I was pretty much left in charge of a brand as there was managerial changes that were taking place. I was also given huge responsibility when it came to coming up with promotional give-aways and promotional literature. It was quite surprising how much I was trusted and accepted into the team.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My favourite phrase to this is "putting theory into practice" which is literally what I did from every unit. Because of the nature of the placement I was able to get involved with EVERYTHING marketing from materials to pricing to market research to communication methods and even some competitor law, economics and statistics.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office isn't a modern building ( although this is being redeveloped soon) but everyone was really really nice and friendly and willing to help no matter what was happening.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • EXTREMELY well organised considering they had never had students before. They really took on board the aims and objectives that we had from university and really enabled us to be able to be involved with everything.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • HUGE amounts of investment. Was pretty much treated like a permanent staff member. Was given all kinds of training which will be hugely valuable later in life.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    National Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Really want to stay working in pharma industry once I graduate and really hope one day to be working for Baxter :D

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a good social scene considering there was only three others. However, we managed to rally around the more younger work members and go out with them as well which was really nice. This year there are even more students so the social life will be even better. However, we could often be found in the local pub after work or during lunch time.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living was minimal because I was able to live at home although the 40 minute drive there and back cost a bit in petrol.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Admittedly the life directly in the place of work was non- existant but it is surrounded by Newbury, Reading, Basingstoke and Oxford which all have excellent places to socialise.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was lots of volunteering opportunities as well as a months social event organised which could be anything from bowling to Xmas shopping to going to Thorpe Park - all at subsidised rates.

    4/5
