    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I work as a Product developer for some large global brands so a lot of my job includes experimental testing, prototyping, team meetings and conducting tastings. I correspond with suppliers and work with colleagues in my different projects towards the same end goal - ie, the launch of a new product. It is a very dynamic role.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills and developed a lot aswell. For example, I have greatly improved my professional communication skills, time management and also being able to prioritise tasks when workload is high. Also, I have gained technical skills such as operation of many scientific equipment and other job specific skills

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes. At the beginning, it was mainly shadowing my buddy and other colleagues to get a grasp of what to do and what the responsibilities may be, but after a few weeks, I was given my own tasks to do. This included some independent work such as colour work and flavour work, or completing specs online, but also coordinating with other teams to complete consumer studies and for workshops.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Support and Guidance was always available to me and everyone was happy to help when I asked. It will not always be offered without you asking as managers also want to give you a sense of independence whilst you work, but if at any point you want help, it will always be there. There were also bi-weekly catch ups with line managers where you could speak freely about your workload/ any other problems you may be faced with, and it would be swiftly sorted out by means of extra help etc.

  • Everyone is always friendly and happy to speak to you about their role/projects they are working on. But in general, everyone is always accepting of others, and it is always fair no matter your background and who you are! Overall, everyone is all working hard towards improving the business and it is great to see so many passionate people, whoa re experts in their fields all working together!
