Overview
My role primarily deals with the region of Europe in the business and varies from day to day primarily focused on tasks around engagement. A few of my day to day tasks include: - Writing and editing internal communications such as newsletters, emails, intranet posts, and announcements. - Writing guidance on the various different communications channels - Planning and supporting internal events such as webinars and virtual town halls - Engage with different key stake holders to shape and collaborate on communication strategies
Skills
yes I think I've learnt quite a few skills, I would say I've learnt : - Clear and simple communication especially in my writing - I've learnt to visually display and design content for guidance forms and brainstorming platforms like Miro - I've learnt to video briefs as well as edit a few simple videos - I've also honed my time management skills
Responsibilities
Yes I would say I was given quite a bit of responsibility during my placement which I enjoyed, I think it definitely afforded me the opportunity to grow a lot in a short space of time. Pretty much from the onset I was given tasks that I would run by myself with assistance and these are business as usual task as I continue to do till this day.
Support & Guidance
I would say I was provided with a lot of guidance especially in the beginning of my placement as I was given a buddy to help me settle into the role and that really helped as I had a designated person I could reach out to if I need help as well as the wider team.
Culture
The company culture is great , especially as someone whose early in the career. There's a huge emphasis in the company around early career professionals and leadership talks. It's through this culture that I've been able to make friends as well as embed myself more within the company.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement and have learned and grown so much from the opportunities and people I've met. I hope to continue my career at Mott MacDonald and grow in the industry of internal comms, an industry I had no prior knowledge of before my placement.
Yes
Make the most of every opportunity, I think as a placement student it can feel quite daunting but the beauty of Mott MacDonald is the culture and friendliness where everyone wants to see you grow and develop. So go to talks, chat to colleague's, ask for more to do and engage with the network available. All of these open doors to relationships you may form or work you'd want to get involved in.
