Overview
We were tasked with work that trainee solicitors at the firm might do, and was supervised by a senior associate and received feedback on the work. It was an opportunity to experience and sit in on day-to-day work of commercial lawyers in the department you were sitting in. There were also additional activities, such as presentations and networking events, where we could hear more about a specific persons'/departments' experiences in the firm, and network with them.
Skills
Definitely, I've learned to draft memos and proofread like a lawyer, with precision. I also learned how to interact within a commercial setting and how to network and get to know people in all levels of the organisation.
Business Insight
It was a great experience, I definitely learned not just about the work they do, but the firm's overall values and culture. It also reinforced my desire to become a solicitor.
Culture
Everyone was very friendly and open to have a discussion, even with vacation scheme students. I also enjoyed how talking about diversity was reflected in every aspect of the firm, and being yourself was truly encouraged.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed all aspects of it, everyday was a true learning experience for me.
Yes
I think it's a place where all types of people are welcome, being methodical with your work and the ability to juggle that with networking would be a good skill to have.
