    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • yes, I mainly covered physical market commodities and would report most days of the week with the flexibility around times I had many University work or other outstanding projects. Performed comprehensive analysis utilising Endur and Excel software to assess potential risks, specifically concentrating on geopolitical factors like Concentration and Performance MtM risk attached to Biofuels. Additionally evaluated the implications of new legislation or market conditions on desk operations. Delivered regular reports to the Board on desk exposures, VaR, P&L activity, and status updates through presentations.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received much support on my placement from my wonderful, experienced team, they would make time to help with asymmetric information and when had a lot of resources for new placement students like myself. Learning something new everyday was fun and I felt as though I could ask questions where I would struggle and that would be heard and taken into consideration with training and tasks. Also enjoyed having check ups with my line manger every few weeks to discuss ongoing and new tasks and progress.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Company culture was definitely a pivotal aspect of my placement, the office and people were warm, welcoming making it a pleasure to go into work. Culture was excellent as the work life balance put employees first and allowed a hybrid working structure. having a pool table and communal coffee areas including the barista bar was also a great addition to the atmosphere, as it made taking a break much more fun and relaxing. My favourite thing about my placement was the people and the positive atmosphere.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to RWE Supply & Trading
  • My advice to a new placement student would be to approach the experience with curiosity and a willingness to learn. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, even if they seem silly—everyone knows you’re there to learn and will want to help, and your team will appreciate your initiative. Take every opportunity to connect with people across the business as people are lovely they make that first connection. try to stay organised, especially with daily tasks, as it helps you manage responsibilities efficiently and demonstrates reliability. Lastly, try to step out of your comfort zone when possible.
