    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I found my work placement really interesting, and a very valuable experience to take with me into a future training contract. It definitely gives you a lot of confidence going into training contract interviews.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone was always very helpful, I could always go and ask if I needed some more work, and all the work I did was contributing to the actual work of the firm, it wasn't just 'mock' research.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • It's nice to sit with a senior member of the firm but also have a trainee buddy. You get an insight into how their roles are different within the firm.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Sometimes I was quite busy, sometimes I wasn't. But who I was working for always recognised I was a vac scheme student and would tell me to let them know if it was too much.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Lots - all the work I did was real and contributed to work being done for clients.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It's definitely helpful - you get to experience real trainee work and decide if this is the right career choice for you.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone was very nice! It's not as serious as some other firms are that I've done vacation schemes at, but that doesn't detract from the fact that people are very good at what they do. It's a good atmosphere actually.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • We usually had a talk every day from a different department, but these were all scheduled in and given to us in a vacation scheme pack given to us on our first day. Also the assessments were all left to the end of the last week, so it was nice to not be panicked so early in the process and to be able to just concentrate on the work you were given in your department.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • You recognise that a vacation scheme here is a real foot in the door to a training contract, and the people here actually want you to do well. You're definitely picked for the vac scheme here if it's felt you will do well at the firm in the future and you have a real chance at getting a training contract.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I don't know if I have a training contract with the firm yet, but if I was offered I would accept.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I think in the first week everyone was slightly reserved, and we couldn't go out in the first week too much because we had a presentation to write and a negotiation exercise to prepare for. But by the end of the last week we had a social where everyone pretty much let their hair down!

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Standard London costs.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Barbican isn't the most exciting place in London but it's very near to Farringdon where there is lots of bars and easy to actually walk to whereever you want to go in the City.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We were given details of sports clubs in our vac scheme pack given to us at the start of our vac scheme. I also got the opportunity to do some CSR work with my trainee buddy.
