    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • This two day workshop was very well organised, challenging and demonstrate the reality of working for a magic circle firm.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • It is a very big organisation but my assigned 'buddies' were interested in my legal path and ready to answer any questions. There was a sense of pride in their work and they wanted you to gain the most from their presentation.

    2/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • HR was always present or close by if need be before, during and after the workshop.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This was a very well oiled machine. We were never left with nothing to do. We either attended presentation, met with trainees or worked with fellow candidates.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • NA

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The case studies were very relevant to my studies and to the wider world of business. Most presenters used examples that had recently been in the press make them relevant. We were encouraged to work in small groups with a trainee guiding the process.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • This is a magic circle firm, they know it and they work hard. There are rumours of 'sleeping pods' we didn't see them but you got the clear impression that if you worked here they would work you to the bone. The camaraderie between colleagues was present but the stress and competition between them was always present. In addition, you did get the impression that if you were to become a trainee you would be 1 of many...

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Kudos to HR they are excellent. There were enough activities to showcase the Firm correctly but at the same time make us enjoy our time there.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • These are busy people who took time to organise very good presentations and seminar. You felt that it was as much about you choosing them as them choosing you.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Magic circle is not for me but in terms of an employer they seem reasonable.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Everyone was friendly but it is a very competitive atmosphere.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • They are situated in Canary Wharf and so it is expensive.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are things to do in Canary Wharf if you ever get out of the office... the self-designed bilding has everything you need! Hair-dresser, gym, restaurants etc...

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • If you have the time...
