    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The placement was enjoyable, however there were certain periods where I was doing the same thing day in and day out which became very tedious.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The working environment was very pleasing and enabled me to perform at a higher level. The atmosphere among the two different departments in which I worked was very good.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There were certain times where I was just left to run and complete the shift without the appopriate knowledge and training which in turn put alot of pressure on me to succeed within the role. However once training was completed and the neccessary time was put into teach me, I was able to carry out my job.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Within the whole placement I have always had work to do and sometimes a bit to much. However there is always time to take a break and unwind. Plus time is allowed for you to get on with university tasks.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Thye greatest thing about the placement within Gist is that you are given a lot of responsibility. You are treated as a manager and not as an industrial placement which is something I was really looking for in my internship.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • If I wanted to progress with a career within logistics I believe the skills that I have learnt would be invaluable. Although, the placement has taught me skills such as managing a woprkforce as well as communicating with people, both in front of a small and large audience. These skills are transferrable within whatever career I decide to pursue. However, although I have enjoiyed the placement, it has also showed me that I do not want to puruse a career within logistics but if I did I am sure Gist would be the company for me.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The overall atmosphere and working environment was very good and was able to have a laugh as well as get on with the job in hand.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • As a whole from listening to other placement students it seems as though Gist have a very good initial schedule. However it seemed as though they did not follow it greatly as my time was very unscheduled. There was never a lot of deciveness when it came to what I would be doing month in month out.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I believe that Gist have invested time in order to train and develop my skills in order to be able to reatin me once the internship finishes, however I do believe they could look into their placement plan and improve on it as there are areas that need it.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Financial Bonus

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have been told that I have performed at a very good standard within my placement, however personally I do not feel that I am suited to a career within logistics and see my future away from the company. However if I ever changed my mind and thought I did want a career within this field, I am sure Gist would be the company for me.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • As depots were spread apart across the United Kingdom, there was not much of a social scene and the 24 hour working atmosphere meant that it was hard for the all team to socialise. Although their have been a few football games scheduled for the depot, I believe this can be improved.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As I have commuted from London since I started I am not really sure of the cost of living around Hemel hempstead although I have been told, its very good for accomodation.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Same as above.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was not much goling on outside of work, although if I nwanted to stay and help the next shift I was always able to.

    2/5
