Overview
I was assigned to a project and team within the Consulting Line of Service where I helped on any roles that needed done for the project. I would complete various tasks, with every day being different, from research to data arrangement to presentation creation.
Skills
Communication - especially virtually, as all of my team were in different offices so interaction was completely virtual. Time keeping skills - using my online diary to organise meetings and stick to deadlines.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was never made to feel like "only an intern" and very much felt like a part of the team. The jobs I was given were for critical pieces of work that needed to be completed for the project, which was then going on to be rolled out to be used my other members of the firm.
Support & Guidance
I always felt supported through my internship. I had a career coach and buddy who constantly checked up on me to make sure I was settling in okay. My team, predominantly made up of senior level staff, always made time to explain tasks and answer any questions, and genuinely encouraged me to reach out to them with anything.
Culture
The company was very social and everyone I spoke to was willing to meet and have a chat - even if this was virtually as we were based across the country from each other! Everyone I spoke to, of all career levels was friendly and encouraging to ask any questions or reach out at any time. Glasgow office is smaller but still runs sports clubs and had a social when the interns were there.
Your Impressions
It was incredible! The firm is amazing, I was quite intimidated by the idea of joining a big 4 firm before I started, but it was very welcoming and supportive throughout, so these nerves instantly disappeared. I could not recommend PwC highly enough. The work was doable with the limited training you can be given on an internship, and any questions were always answered quickly. I would definitely go back!
Yes
Be yourself! Be inquisitive and ask questions, and make the most of it. Throughout the application thoroughly do your research into the firm and make sure you know, and show, the values of PwC. Key skills I would highlight for the application is communication and time organisation. When starting, try not to be too nervous, as everyone is in the same position on the first day, it is very relaxed. Most of all, enjoy!
