    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The PMO collates information from Project and Program Managers. My role involves creating resources for Project and Program Managers and standarding processes so reporting is more efficient. This creates more impactful data to report to senior leaders. I am also involved in planning Anti Money Laundering projects for 2023 and ensuring resources are allocated to ensure they are completed before the regulatory deadline.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • During my internship I have worked on several different projects so I have had to manage my time effectively and prioritise tasks. In addition, American Express encourages networking, this has helped my confidence and I have expanded my corporate knowledge. I am also given the opportunity to use my previous experience and challenge the status quo.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I had more support than expected, I had my manager, a buddy, my team, other interns and the campus recruitment team to directly reach out to. However, if you want to email someone outside of your business unit, they are normally more than happy to put in a coffee chat to help with your project or just tell you about their journey and experience with Amex.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to American Express
  • I would advise you to research the American Express 'Blue Box Values' these are really important to American Express and it will make you stand out in your application process. I would also encourage others to come into American Express with an open mind, be confident to approach individuals and ask for advise, feedback and find out more about their roles. On my first day I was told 'What's the worst that can happen?', this really stuck with me, don't be scared.
