    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Assist the Retirement team in pensions actuarial work including performing individual calculations, building Excel models and preparing deliverables for clients. Began the WTW trainee consultant programme where you learn about how to complete different calculations and become a successful consultant actuary. Meet with colleagues across the business to learn about their roles and the different functions of WTW.

  • I have learnt and developed many skills over the course of the internship including: - In depth knowledge of the pensions industry - How to perform a large variety of complex pensions calculations - Excel skills - Time management and prioritisation - Professionalism and how to behave in an office environment

  • I was given a lot of responsibility during the internship where the majority of my time was spent on client work. Even by week 2 of the internship I was doing pieces of work for clients.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a lot of support during my internship. The training programme was very well put together with experienced actuaries leading the sessions. Colleagues were happy to answer any questions and meetings were set up with senior members to learn about their roles and career path.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture and atmosphere at WTW is friendly, welcoming and supportive. It was a fantastic place to work. I was invited to multiple after work socials as well which were very enjoyable.

  • I enjoyed my internship very much. I learned so much about WTW and the role of a consultant actuary. My colleagues were also friendly, kind and funny which made my experience even better.

  • Make sure to understand and be interested in the role you are applying for, so that at interview you have a lot to say (and also so you will enjoy the internship). WTW is a great company and I would highly recommend accepting an internship offer form them.
