    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • Shadowing an employee, in my case it was an associate and just got to go through the project that they were working on at the time. Then had one on one conversations about the job and their journey and some tips and hints on how to get there. Plus talks and interesting presentations from partners that had relevant experience. Mainly the shadowing and networking that made up the most of the daily activities during the internship

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learnt how to apply skills that I was learning at university. Developed existing skills such as time management but mainly learnt how to communicate with a wide range of people including people who are a sort of higher rank. Got more comfortable sending emails or communicating informally through chats to set up meetings or confirm small details. Definitely more confident once i actually have to join the work force due to developing these skills.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • Considering i joined not knowing exactly what the role does, it was very insightful into what exactly happens on the day to day basis. The best part was that during the insight week, we also had the chance to find out about other roles within my business unit, meaning i got a good insight into other roles you can get into, so it was good in that sense. Also got a way to see how they use certain software to go about their business.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture is very much orientated towards the employee's wellbeing by having loads of initiatives and ways to get involved. The culture was very community orientated and there were networks where you can join based on interests or ethnicity/religion etc. Additionally they had stuff such as rewards or during summer being able to work one extra hour everyday and have a half day on friday, or rewards for working hard. The general atmosphere was really calm and welcoming

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed it thoroughly, it was very good to see how the team works and the kind of stuff that goes on beyond the work. in terms of company culture, the person i was shadowing was actually going to a team dinner which showed just how connected they are as a team and it really made me realise what working there would be like. It met my expectations and i would definitely go back there.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC
  • Take the time during the interviews. It is a very thorough interview process and it may feel maybe pointless at times but if you try as hard as you can it should be fine. In terms of the one on one interviews, be very familiar with the company values and show them as much as you can through examples rather than just maybe stating them. I joined because i met a student recruiter who told me about it.
