    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • During my placement year I worked in the Plastics Department supporting production with quality issues, problem solving and tooling. My role involved a lot of 3D printing and CATIA, Excel and Data analysis. I had a very wide range of projects across different areas within my shop and lead multiple production critical projects. I was even given the opportunity to present up to Director level within the first few months of joining and regularly presented to senior management.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Learned some of the key TPS philosophy and how to approach a problem. Improved CATIA, Ultimaker and Excel skills. My communication and presentation skills were massively improved by the exposure I had.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Everyone is treated pretty evenly at Toyota, you are well respected as a member of the team and no one treats you different because you are 'new'. Everyone is friendly and it seems like everyone's been here 10+ years. You are expected to work incredibly hard at times and its not for the faint hearted but you also get the recognition and reward to go with this.

  • I really enjoyed my time here, I never spent long at the desk and was always getting involved in an interesting project. I would return as a Grad if given the opportunity! We had an amazing social life with a cohort of 40 placements/grads so I think this was also key.
