    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Role involves multi-disciplinary engineering approach, to development of automated testing platform of high voltage, aircraft power distribution system. Responsibilities include: - Analysis of User Requirements Specification - Development of physical testing platform - Design and manufacture of low voltage test equipment - Programming of tests via Simulink/ MATLAB - Writing of high voltage test procedures

  • Many new skills have been developed. These include: - proficiency with MATLAB/ Simulink - Understanding of Systems verification process - Ability to organize time effectively - Appreciation for metrics and task management - Importance of teamwork - Communication skills

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given full ownership of writing tests for a novel testing platform within an advanced R&D project. Success in this led to greater responsibility tasks on the critical path of the project. The more I proved my abilities, the more trust I gained, the more responsibility I was given.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Great company culture. Everyone is very easy to et on with and always willing to help. There is great banter within the team, even in stressful situations. Everyone is super smart and gifted yet they all act with humility.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • It was great. It was challenging yet satisfying I developed as a professional and as an engineer. Cheltenham takes some getting used to if you are from a bigger city but you can make it work.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to GE Aerospace
  • The only downside is that you are not guaranteed a great placement. Many people had less enjoyable placements. That's not to say you will not have a good time. If you are driven and motivated to actually develop as an engineer and not just get something for your C.V, you can make it work for you.
