    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Writing YouTube copy, scheduling posts for Facebook and Instagram, responding to online customer queries, and labelling the UK social media posts.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • My Excel skills have improved tremendously and I now know how to collect data on a brand's social media performance. This has meant that I can conduct post-campaign analysis reports independently, which are presented across the company and used to improve future projects. I have learnt how to interact with professionals at different levels of seniority and have given several presentations to different teams within the office. My organisational skills have also improved, and I know how to prioritise tasks more effectively. I've also had the chance to develop my personal and professional skills through Disney's Intern Development Programme which included courses which taught presentation skills, time management exercises and more. I have been able to attend industry events such as AdWeek 2022 and learnt new marketing tips from external companies.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • In the internship, you are given a lot of responsibility and treated like a full member of the team. Although you are always welcome to ask your team members for support, many tasks are solely under your leadership. You are encouraged to use your initiative within the role instead of diverting issues to other members of the team to deal with. This has been helpful because when applying for full-time roles one is prepared to take on more levels of responsibility.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • My line manager has always been very supportive when I don't understand tasks or feel overwhelmed with tasks. Many times he would help me prioritise what needs to be done first and even take on some tasks herself. HR is also very approachable if you have issues during your placement and replies to emails quickly. There are often company-led courses to advise you on which course of action to take if you ever encounter a problem whilst at work.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • There are often fun activities happening around the office, from screenings to character visits, which is very exciting. A number of charity initiatives also occur which staff are encouraged to take part in. I am unaware of local community initiatives taking place. The atmosphere within the office is very lively and friendly, especially since some members of staff have not seen one another ina. long time due to the pandemic. It would be nice if there were more office clubs to join, to change my day-to-day routine.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have definitely enjoyed my placement and it has been nice to get experience in the professional working world. My team has been very kind throughout and I would love to work with them again. I did expect my role to be more creative but have learned more about the factual entertainment industry and the needs of the brand's target audience, that I did not know before. I would like to come back to the company and am curious about together fields within the communication industry such as PR.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to The Walt Disney Company
  • I would advise anyone applying to TWDC to prepare enough for the interview process by thinking of examples of things you are proud of, how you are improving on your weaknesses, times you have worked in a team etc. Always ask questions when given the opportunity during an assessment day, it shows you have a genuine interest in the company. It's important to make connections with people in the company on Lindekin so that you can learn about future job opportunities.
