    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The summer internship role at pwc involves a welcome event and get together, where I met all the other interns and found out about the firm - and the work involved ahead. During the internship in the audit/assurance service line I did various using the financial statements - mostly checking balance sheet amounts indicated a 'true and fair' view. there was also some get togethers and opportunity to meet with interns and celebrate the work done before converting into a full time position

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • During the summer placement at pwc I learnt a lot about the firm, met lots of great people and worked hard to complete my assignments, learning all the time from those around me. This helped build my knowledge and understand the financial records much better than before I started. The main skills I used included analysis, excel, calculations, problem solving, and note taking. It was great working with new people both in the firm and also getting to meet other intern starters who also seemed to learn a lot from the work and training and support alongside

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility during my internship - i expected this as I have friends who have worked in the industry before, so they helped set expectations. I was given projects to work on with the team around me, as we worked to check various balances and use audit software to put our work outputs into. it is useful to note you get training and insight before being let loose at clients so you do feel prepared

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a lot of support and guidance during my summer work at pwc. The work I was doing was new but all areas of testing were outlined to me and complicated work areas discussed, and my questions i had were always answered. It was good to learn why the work i was doing was important and I learnt what others did around me, so I could understand these areas better in the future for further testing then, when i would be ready.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture and atmosphere in the firm was really very good in my opinion. I was made to feel part of the team and there was a good atmosphere between the interns and I made lots of new friends straight away, and throughout the placement as you had chance to socialise and chat with people of all levels of seniority - including Partner level, which was great. I was impressed how personable all staff were, even the really senior ones

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • The internship was a great experience and met expectations beforehand, with the chance to learn from others and do real work which contributed to the financial statements. It was really important to me to do work that was impactful and the chance to learn and develop my understanding of finance from my university work, and the experience reinforced the knowledge I had built going into my final year of university. This was a really pleasing output.

  • 7. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to PwC
  • I would say to others thinking of applying to PWC to look at the firm's website and also the social channels (various across all platforms) to understand as much as possible about the firm, and also the current commercial impacts happening in the wider world- to build your understanding and motivations to apply, as this will build knowledge and also give you things to talk about in interview when you are asked why you want to work at PWC. It's a stringent application process so this knowledge can help give confidence and hopefully impress your interviewer.
