    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I mainly worked with the communications team/suppliers to ensure collateral (e.g., brochures) were available globally whether this be as digital downloads or physical prints for events. I also prepared monthly literature reviews for all markets (e.g., Marine), meeting with the market owners to review usage data and recommending actions (e.g., content/branding updates, revisions and obsoletions). Other duties included order approvals, literature translations, restocks and ad-hoc projects such as asset creation.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • My project management has been hugely developed and improved. I've worked on numerous ad-hoc projects including focus groups, refining translation processes and creating new, market-facing banners in our latest branding. Each project required carefully planning and time-management, while still keeping on top of my regular, incoming stakeholder collateral requests. Additionally, my presenting skills have been enhanced by having the opportunity to lead meetings with both internal (comms) and external (suppliers) groups developing leadership skills.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given lots of responsibility and felt a part of the Cummins Team. I was trusted to be interacting with the communications team independently along with being able to work closely and lead team meetings with our suppliers without supervision. Practically, some of the tasks I was responsible for including order approvals, compiling the data for literature reviews and procuring recommendations, collateral re-prints and shipments, raising POs, accurately recording financials, inbox management and training.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I had a very good working-relationship with my manager, having regular 1-to-1s to discuss my workload and how I was finding things. This was a great opportunity to provide honest feedback, review my work and plan ahead. I also had a buddy who was my go-to for all work-related questions, and a mentor to discuss my aspirations and personal development. Additionally, I never came across anyone at Cummins wasn't happy, and eager to help.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture and general atmosphere was really positive and enjoyable. Cummins are very big on diversity and inclusion, alongside teamwork and employee care. Everyone was very positive, and always happy to help and talk. Working online most of the time was a new experience, with the majority of the Communications Team being located over in America but this was a welcome experience to be in a role with a global reach and impact.
