    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Supporting the demand team with forecasting integrity reports as well as ad hoc demand reviews for Account teams. Using tools such as PowerBi and Excel to create reports used for monthly Demand Review meetings. Analysing and validating data for customer accounts, looking at history and customer demand going forward to establish customer patterns.

  • I have highly developed my analytical skills and IT/ computer skills. Specifically, I have been exposed to Visual Basic Applications within Excel, whereby we create macros to make reports run more efficiently. I have developed strong communication skills through collaborating with different accounts teams around the world.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given responsibility for many monthly reports as well as being assigned a customer account for me to manage and run consensus meetings with the account team and my manager. I was given the responsibility of validating the forecast we input, to ensure clarity and accuracy in our data.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received huge support during my placement from the GOE demand team. My colleagues were always there to ask questions if I was unsure and gave me the confidence to go ahead with responses and reports. For support, I was given many working instructions to guide me which were really helpful for my training.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company has a friendly and diverse culture where everyone is involved as a team. Cummins always encourage diversity and sustainability talks each month to ensure us as employees know events that are taking place. They also have a great initiative named "EEEC", whereby each employee dedicates some time to charities/ voluntary initiatives. There is a sense of helping the community from this.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed undertaking my placement at Cummins. I have learnt and developed new skills that I could not have done if I didn't do a placement. The support specifically Cummins gives for development is superb. Cummins have given me opportunities for external training days for my Excel skills. I enjoyed working with my team and learning to work independently.

  • I would encourage you to research the company and its values, specifically what initiatives and events they currently have going on. Look at what skills they are asking for on the job specification and prepare examples of how you have done each one.
