    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Programming new features for internal tools used by Oracle Commerce developers and creating unit, integration and performance tests. Other tasks involved implementing fixes for bugs that arose.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learnt a new language in React.js, as well as Scala for creating Gatling scripts for performance testing. Additionally, I developed my existing Java skills. I've also developed my communication skills through doing presentations and regular meetings.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes. I was responsible, along with the other interns, for maintaining and adding to an important internal tool used by many Oracle developers. I also got to carry out important performance testing on key new features for Oracle Commerce.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received excellent support and guidance throughout, with regular meetings with my line manager to update on my progress with particular tasks, and anything I was stuck on. If I was stuck or unsure about something, I always had somebody to ask.

  • The general culture and atmosphere was great, everyone is very friendly and made me feel at home.

  • I very much enjoyed my placement, as I was working with a great group of people, and my work was meaningful and had impact to a large number of Oracle Commerce developers.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Oracle
  • Make sure your CV is up to date with projects you have been working on, and it is always good to talk about endeavours and projects you may have outside of university also. Even if you don't have experience working with every language or technology that is being asked for, showing that you are passionate and hard-working will still put you in good stead.
