  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role is a software engineer in Oracle Contextual Intelligence meaning that most of my work involves developing tooling to aid the classification of text and video content. Working in a small agile team means there is the opportunity to participate in agile practices such as pair programming. There are also daily standup meetings along with bi-weekly planning, retro and review sessions that aid in my development.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learned so many new skills whilst at Oracle in my placement year, including both technical and soft skills. Some examples of technical skills are new programming languages and frameworks e.g. Golang, and React; DevOps tools such as GitLab CI; containers (Docker, Kubernetes); and much more. Soft skills I have improved include my presentation skills through presenting in sprint reviews, communication skills through taking part in team meetings.
