    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • Throughout the programme, I was able to explore the different divisions at UBS - as well as some sub-divisions (e.g. philanthropy in Wealth Management). On a day-to-day basis, the structure was clear and simple - 4/5 Zoom calls with representatives with time at the end to ask questions.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have been able to get a very unique insight to the culture at UBS, and have also been able to develop my overall knowledge of what different parts of the bank do - and find out how exactly they are interconnected.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • HR played an instrumental role in coordinating the different speakers from different divisions - and were very clear about next steps in applying for a 2023 summer internship (and the necessary steps required to secure that)

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture was one in which UBS' clients trust the bank to deliver first-rate strategic advice and innovative financing solutions, whilst maintaining strict values of collective progress. In fact, though the programme was virtual, certain employees were more than happy to meet me for a coffee at the main office to make it as 'real-life' as possible - portraying how supportive people are in helping others at the bank.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The programme dramatically increased my interest in UBS. Though there is a lot of information available online about UBS and its unique, collaborative culture, hearing from people at the firm in a range of different departments itself was invaluable both in terms of hearing their experiences first-hand and finding out more about some of the distinctive innovative deals UBS works on.

  • 7. Would you recommend UBS to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS
  • Where having strong technical skills is important, UBS prides itself on being a bank with a lean structure, and so my top advice (though very simple) is to be a nice person and someone who is easy to talk to. It is also important to be inquisitive - and ask insightful questions where appropriate.
