    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role was classed as a Service Management Placement - typically the responsibilities of a senior SM involve contract management, stakeholder management and financial planning and more. However the programme is set up in a way you have freedom to venture into different areas of the business and learn what you want. The industry experts are there to guide you and help answer any of your questions, however, ultimately it is up to you to push for work that you are more interested in. In saying that, shadowing meetings and working on related tasks can be expected.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • As well as generally feeling more mature in myself and also commercially, I have developed a range of skills including IT competency and industry knowledge, part of this was due to CC funding me to do the ITIL Certification. I have also completed presenting courses (funded too by CC). On top of formal training courses we have access to Linked In's learning platform which I have utilised to learn a range of skills from Excel too Cloud Computing.

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, in my experience the amount of responsibility you are given is dependant on how much you personally put yourself out there and are show willing to do work.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I couldn't have asked for more support in my time at my placement, ranging from managers, programme directors and also peers. We have been looked after / cared for more than I would have expected at a FTSE 250 organisation.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from your line manager?
  • 5/5

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Great fun, the company has a big emphasis on making new comers feel settled and encouraging socialising through out of work events i.e. free bar events. The same team spirited approach is visible in the offices whenever I visited.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Computacenter, I have felt valued and have had great fun in my time here. I have made friends from all ages and backgrounds that I will keep in touch with after departing. It speaks volume that I was not aware of CC prior to joining whereas now tell all family and friends what a great company it is. I would gladly come back after graduation :)

  • 7. Would you recommend Computacenter to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Computacenter
  • The company focuses so much on the person's potential - not where they are currently, if you are friendly, smiley and are willing to work hard I don't think you can go wrong here. Be yourself - there is no other you and you could become a great asset to the Company. One thing I would love to have known prior to joining is how many long standing employees there are at CC (there are a lot) to me this shows it is a great company that looks after them. Good luck!!!
