    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • In my role within the Formats team, I manage the diaries of three salespeople, which involves setting meetings with international clients and the wider team. I am also the first point of contact between clients and salespeople and have to share materials (ratings information, promos, episodes and format decks) with them. I also provide assistance with deal admin using our deal software and keep internal client databases up to date for use in marketing mailouts.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • This is my first corporate media position, and as such I have gained innumerable skills and developed my existing skills. I have grown as a team player and have also developed my confidence, as my role is frequently client-facing. I have been proven to work well under pressure and meet deadlines due to the fast-paced nature of my team. I have also learnt to use screening website software and deal admin software in my role.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given huge amounts of responsibility, which has been vital to my experience. In April, I accompanied the team to MIPTV in Cannes, where I was responsible for providing on the ground support to the team, as well as booking travel and being across the setup of the event. As I look after three diaries, I am also responsible for the salespeople I look after, and I was also responsible for providing a report on our new formats to an external media consulting firm.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • My team are incredible, and I feel as if I have had the most support throughout my internship from them. I have always felt extremely supported and listened to by my line manager and the team I work with. My team members have also assisted in helping me find a position after my internship, which has been greatly appreciated. Within my division, my fellow interns have become fast friends, and the overall vibe in the office is friendly and welcoming.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture of NBCUniversal is diverse and exciting. Within my division, we have had lots of changes over the last year which makes coming to work exciting, and I can't wait to see what we do next. One day a year, we participate in Cares Day, where we do a volunteering activity as part of our corporate social responsibility commitments. I came into my internship from The Prince's Trust; I wouldn't be here without NBCU's partnership with the Trust and am grateful for all the wider fundraising activities NBCU does for the work of the Trust.

  • I would encourage future interns to say yes to everything, throw yourself into every opportunity available and get involved with as many things outside of your day-to-day work as possible. Make as many connections within and outside of your team as possible to maximise your networking opportunities. If you have a passion for content, these internships are the perfect opportunity for you to be involved with a well-respected and internationally known media company, which is a fantastic thing to have on your CV.
