    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • This role was inside the International Networks section of the company where i worked with the finance team on our EMEA TV channels. Day to day I managed all affiliate data including input of data into the Excel database, built monthly analysis reports comparing actuals to forecast and worked closely with the sales team to ensure information requirements are met.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • In this role I've learnt many new as well as built on old skills. I have learnt so many new skills in management accounting and how a finance team operates in a big media company setting. I have also improved me presentation both from creating slides and reports as well as physically explaining them to stakeholders.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a great amount of responsibility after the first 6 months of my placement when i became very confident in my role. I had control over our affiliate revenue with little guidance from my manager and input data as well as updating it with any deal renewals from our customers. I was given responsibility of reconciling month end actuals with our own forecasts and creating a monthly dashboard for senior leadership.

  • In the first 6 months i was given a lot of support and i would be able to get almost instant help and guidance from members of the team. I was given extensive training and given lots of notes during the handover process during joining.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company was very laid back and casual in both the communication and dress code for the office and virtual environment. If there were any errors or delays there were no consequences or disciplines and you were gently nudged to do the best you could. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly and the office itself kept everyone social and engaged.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to NBCUniversal
  • If you were to apply to NBCU, I would say just be yourself as they prefer people who can get the job done as well as have a good work culture - you need a good work/life balance. Also, be willing to help out wherever possible and learn as quick as you can as this is what will help you progress and get the most out of your time.
