    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Within Operations and Technology I support IMO (International Media Operations), this involves standard closing procedures at the end of each month to ensure actuals came in as we predicted, and if not then why not? We then use these values to predict what will happen in future months. I work a lot with Purchase Orders and Invoicing whilst communicating with many different parts of the business.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Excel skills have improved massively, the company paid for me to do an additional course so I have an excel qualification. I have also improved standard office skills such as conducting meetings and writing professional emails. I have a much stronger knowledge of the Finance industry and key skills you require to be successful from completing this placement; e.g. analytical and problem solving skills.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Much more than expected- in a very good way! I have been responsible for huge amounts of money being allocated to the correct places within the departments profit and loss account. I have also lead meetings when my manager has not been able to, to very superior individuals within NBC which I found very exciting.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • A lot. There are always people to help and everyone would always make time to help you out if you are struggling; whether you are the intern or not. There are specific internal training courses which you can join as well. I signed up for the 'Blind Networking' initiative and the individual I have been matched with has been faultlessly helpful in my development within the company.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Although NBC is a big company, it feels as though everyone knows everyone. There is always a positive atmosphere in the office and a large support bubble around you. There have been a couple of events lead by the company; being part of the YPN committee created a lot of opportunities for the social aspect of my internship.

  • 7. Would you recommend NBCUniversal to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to NBCUniversal
  • NBC are not solely dependent on your qualifications and achievements (as much as they are of course a big part); they look for people who are willing to learn and put 110% effort into their role as they understand how early in our careers we are. Another piece of advice would be to say yes at every given opportunity so that you come out with no regrets!
